Bio

John Adams is a Montana-based singer/songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist known for heartfelt storytelling, warm acoustic tones, and an intimate stage presence. His music draws inspiration from folk traditions and the straightforward honesty of songwriters like John Prine, blending thoughtful lyricism with melodic fingerstyle guitar crafted to carry each song’s emotional weight. Whether performing in listening rooms, concert halls, or community spaces, John creates a welcoming, conversational atmosphere that invites audiences into the stories behind his songs.

A seasoned performer with years of experience across the region, John’s originals explore everyday life, human connection, and the small moments that reveal deeper truths. His fingerstyle arrangements add richness and nuance, making his performances both sonically engaging and deeply personal. The result is a sound that feels familiar yet uniquely his own—rooted in classic Americana and delivered with genuine sincerity.

profile1

Over the years John has developed a songwriting and performance style that emulates the great storytellers of our time… John Prine, Steve Goodman, James Taylor, Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffett, Gordon Lightfoot, Willie Nelson, Chris Smither… the list goes on. Performing mostly solo, John tries to deliver on what every great songwriter knows,
the only you need to reach people is three chords and the truth.

Raised in the DC suburbs in Maryland, John grew up steeped in the storytelling of classic country, bluegrass, and the soul of ’70s singer-songwriters. Those roots still echo in every song he writes: honest, unhurried, and unafraid to sit in the silence between notes.

In college in Baltimore, John performed with his brother, Phil and their close friend Andy Slevin as The Other Brothers (you’ve heard of the Righteous Brothers, Osborne Brothers, Smothers Brothers, well, we’re the Other Brothers). During those early days, John honed his vocal skills singing the songs of his heroes, John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Jim Croce and many others.

After college the band went their separate ways, and John embarked on a solo career mostly in around the DC and Baltimore college and bar scenes. It was during this time that John began writing songs, and in the early 90’s, John was invited down to Nashville to record a demo, and to release his first single “Halo Moon” – which reached #65 on the Indie-Bullet charting service for independant musicians.
