About the show
John Prine & Me is a heartfelt evening of music celebrating the songs and spirit of the legendary John Prine, performed by Billings-based fingerstyle guitarist and singer-songwriter John Adams.
Known for his warm acoustic sound, intricate guitar work, and knack for storytelling, Adams has often been described as “what you might get if James Taylor and John Prine had a baby.” His performances blend humor, heart, and musicianship, making this tribute a natural extension of his own artistic voice.
John Prine & Me will feature a curated selection of Prine’s most beloved songs alongside Adams’ original material inspired by Prine’s songwriting legacy. The show offers both longtime fans and newcomers a chance to reconnect with timeless music in an intimate and engaging setting.
Show Format
Pre-show (optional)
While people are gathering in the performance space, a pre-show “John Prine Trivia” reel can be played, while being accompanied by music from John Prine’s friends and peers (Steve Goodman, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Keith Sykes, etc.) Think of the movie trivia that plays prior the the feature film in many theaters. It’s a fun way to get the audience engaged, entertained, hopefully educated with a backdrop of music to help get everyone “in the mood” for real folk music the way Prine and his peers intended it to be.
Performance Format
Show length: The standard show is approximately 120 minutes long (without intermission). It can be adapted to anywhere from 90 to nearly 180 minutes in length
The show is performed in three sections, that may have an optional intermission placed in the middle. In general the show format is:
- Classic John Prine Songs
- with stories, thoughts and insights
- Original Songs
- Songs written by John Adams that were influenced or inspired by John Prine
- The Funny Stuff
- Finish off the show with a collection of John Prine’s Humorous songs, and one or two Originals (time permitting)
Post-Show Options
Post show activities are great ways to show your season ticket holders/subscribers that they mean something extra special. We can add the post (and sometimes pre) show activities to take your event to the next level
